If you have a dog or cat, be prepared to pay a little extra for an animal license in January.
On a unanimous vote aldermen approved, reluctantly, to move the animal fees forward. In a three- tiered approach, in January, the fee for all animals will be $4.
Then, from Feb. 1-14, the fee will be $4 for altered animals and $10 for a non-altered animal. After Feb. 15, the license fee will be $14 for altered animals and $20 for non-altered dogs and cats.
The city will be letting bids for containers for the solid waste disposal system. The new container truck will be here in January. Richard Anderson, Public Works Director, told the council that, “While it isn’t exactly what I wanted, we’ll make it work. The new container truck was approximately $10,000 less than expected.
At the next meeting of the council, aldermen will ratify a compensation package for the new city attorney, T. Kai Lee.
She will receive $2,500 a month for 80 hours of time. Through December Lee will only work on civil matters and Mary Ann Ries will be retained for $500 through the month for prosecution cases she was already working on.
The council moved on a wage increase from $10 to $10.52 for Monica Huffman. It will be funded through the Juvenile Community Service Grant.
A pair of building permits were approved, one at 309 S. Wisconsin and the other at 20 N. Maryland, both for window replacements.
There was some discussion but no action taken on engineer selection for the Industrial Park.
Individuals are needed for the formation of a Planning Board. This is in conjunction with the city Growth Policy. Participants from within the city limits and outside the city will serve on the board.
If you are interested in this vital position, which will be a model for other planning boards to follow, contact Mayor John Shevlin or Wendy Judisch through the city at 271-3623.
The council moved to grant the request for CTEP (Community Transportation Endowment Program) funds for the Pondera Arts Council. The funds will be used for a new theatre marquee at the Orpheum Theatre/Wiegand Auditorium.
There will be a public hearing for comment on the granting of the CTEP funds to PAC at the next council meeting on Dec. 3.
The requested funds amount to approximately $30,000 with a match of about 14 percent.
The next regular meeting of the city council will be Dec. 3, 7:30 p.m. at city hall, 411-1/2 S. Main Street.
