I-O Photo by Buck Traxler Montana Attorney General Mike McGrath was in Conrad on Friday to honor Connie Huffman, a crime victim’s advocate, at a special ceremony at Norley Hall. Huffman is the director of the Hi-Line’s Help for Abused Spouses program. She has worked in the victim advocacy program for more than 25 years and is responsible for developing a non-profit domestic violence program that covers Pondera, Toole, Teton, Glacier, Liberty, and Chouteau counties. Before McGrath came to the podium, Mikie Baker-Hajek, Executive Director of Victim Witness Assistance Services in Great Falls and Cascade County said, “Connie has a passion for helping people. She is very insightful and works towards establishing relationships and understands the dynamics of rural domestic violence.” Speaking to over 50 people who came to celebrate the recognition, McGrath noted, “every year my office and the Office of Victim Services recognize outstanding victim advocates around the state. This year, it is my pleasure to come to Conrad to honor a truly outstanding advocate, Connie Huffman.” He said, the recognition is well-deserved and long overdue and because of her work over the past 25 years,” thousands of Montanans lives have been changed for the better.” He noted that 25 years is a long time to be in this business. “It takes a special kind of person to be there for others day and day out, year after year.” However, letters in support of her nomination show that being there for others who were in desperate of help is exactly what she has done. Pondera County Sheriff Tom Kuka said that, while he and Connie don’t always agree on everything, “She has been here for our department every time we requested her help.”
