AUTOMATED TRUCK – The new automated refuge truck for the city has arrived and will begin service the week of Feb. 18. Residents can start putting trash in the new containers in the alley ways. If you want to save your garbage cans, take them out of the alley so city crews don’t pick them up. As soon as possible, the crews will begin picking up old container stands and dispose of them, I-O Photo by Buck Traxler The City of Conrad received the new automated garbage truck on Friday and employees are receiving training on the new truck. “We will start using the new truck and containers on the week of Feb. 18,” says Public Works Director Rich Anderson. At this point, all the residents can start putting garbage in the new containers. Anderson cautioned, “The startup of using this new system will be slow, as employees will have to make adjustments to the containers, their positions in the alleyways and converting from the old system to the new system.” Once everything is up and rolling smoothly, the city hopes to do Monday and Tuesday routes on Monday, and then the Wednesday and Thursday routes will be done on Wednesday. The Friday pickup day will remain on Friday as it is. Residents need to note, garbage not placed in the new containers will not be picked up. “Converting to this new system may take some time, so we are asking everyone to have some patience as we make this transition,” says Mayor John Shelvin. When everything is running smoothly the city will be picking up old garbage cans and racks that are left in the alleys for disposal. If you want to keep your old garbage cans and racks, you will have to remove them from the alley. Anderson commented, “We appreciate the residents patience and understanding during this transition, we hope to have things running smoothly as soon as possible.” If you have further questions or need more information, contact the city office at 271-3623.
