Bikers 4 Santa are riding for kids
Bikers 4 Santa – The Kindred Spirits Motorcycle Association held a Poker Run Saturday, kicking off the Bikers 4 Santa Benefit, a Christmas fundraiser. For several Kindred Spirits members, this was the first ride on their own bikes since taking the safety class with Thorsen as the instructor in June in Conrad. I-O Photo Courtesy of Tilt Kline
Motorcycle clubs and riders in our area have a limited number of months out of the year they can hit the streets and highways with their bikes. Snow, ice and bitter cold temperatures don’t make for optimal driving or riding conditions if you are on a motorbike. So for a few months out of the year, we see and hear about the clubs and riders. However, after October, it’s almost a given we won’t see them surface until spring. Such is not the case for Shelby’s Kindred Spirits, a local motorcycle club doing good works all year round.
The Kindred Spirits group has a great time riding their motorcycles for as many months as Montana will allow, but they also have a great time doing a lot of wonderful things for this community off of those bikes too.
One of their biggest events of the year is their Christmas fundraiser called Bikers 4 Santa.
During the month of December, these biker men and women will be playing Santa Claus, handing out gifts in the way of toys to under privileged children or buying some special item for a nursing home resident. It may also mean purchasing a Christmas meal, complete with all the trimmings, for several local families struggling to make ends meet.
So where do they get the money to purchase all those great Santa Claus gifts?
On Sept. 22, Kindred Spirits will be holding their annual poker run and raffle and all the proceeds from that event go back into the organization’s Christmas fund.
Anyone wanting to ride a motorcycle can participate in the poker run on Sept. 22 and join in the fun. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Oasis in Shelby, with all the bikers taking off promptly at 11 a.m. Cost for a “hand” in the poker run is $10.
