Photo courtesy of Mike Bashor Senior Cowgirl Julie Brown picked up a pair of firsts, one-second place and a third at the divisional tournament in Glasgow on Saturday. Team places and scores for the girls went like this: Glasgow 146, Malta 95, Cut Bank 75, Choteau 46, Plentywood 44, Conrad 36, Poplar 27, Shelby 25, Fairfield 16, Wolf Point 7 and Harlem 6. In the javelin, Brown tossed the spear 125-1 to capture a first place medal and followed that up with first place in the shot put, with a heave of 35-6. The versatile athlete zipped to a second place in the 200m in 27.1 and raced to a third place in the 100m with a clocking of 13.4. Melissa Barringer cleared the bar in the pole vault at 8-0 taking a fourth place finish. She jumped 12-9 in the long jump, but did not place. Kyra Brauer cleared 7-6 in the pole vault but did not place and Roberta Kronebusch tossed the round ball 29-7 in the shot put, but did not place. On the boys’ side, team places and scores went this way: Fairfield 96, Malta 86, Glasgow 80, Cut Bank 61, Plentywood 54, Shelby 51, Choteau 39, Harlem 20, Conrad 15, Poplar 13, and Wolf Point 3. Cowboy Clark Irvin raced to a first place in the 300H with a time of 40.7 and was fourth the 110H in 16.6. He also competed in the 100m and 200m. Aaron Lehnerz went over the bar in the pole vault event to get a sixth place. Cutter Martin went of the bar in the pole vault at 8-6, Boyd Matheson threw the discus 95-4 and Josiah Moerkerke went over the bar at 10-0, however, those marks didn’t qualify for the state meet. The boys’ 4x100 relay team of Moerkerke, Chase Cork, Stefan Sommer, and Clark ran a time of 48.7 and the 4x400 relay team of Moerkerke, Paul O’Brien, Brandon Philipps, and Sommer were clocked at 3:55.1, but these times didn’t qualify for the sate meet in Butte this weekend.
