Brown takes first place track medals

    To paraphrase a UPS television commercial, “What can Brown do for you?” well, if your name is Julie Brown, you can bring home four first place medals from the District Track meet in Great Falls on Saturday.
    Conrad placed fourth out of five teams and Brown garnered 40 of the squad’s 78 points.
    Team places and scores went like this: Cut Bank 189, Choteau 97, Shelby 82, Conrad 78, Fairfield 61.
    On the track-side of the ledger, she picked up two first places at the 100m and 200m sprints with times of 13.2 and 27.4 respectively.
    Then in the field events, with a heave of 34-5 she took first in the shot put and with a throw of 127-0 in the javelin; she won that event by a whopping 17 feet over Ashley Vandolah of Choteau.
    Melissa Barringer got the  Cowgirls another first place, clearing the bar at 8-0 in the pole vault. She placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 13-06.
    Kyra Brauer tied for second in the high jump at 4-06 and placed third in pole vault at 7-6.  Roberta Kronebusch took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 28-9 and was sixth in the discus with a throw of 75-8.
    Barringer also placed sixth in the 100m in 13.8 and Jayleen Harris was sixth in the 400m run with a time of 1:08.21
    The 4x100m relay team of Barringer, Harris, Katey VanderVeen and Brauer took third place, clocking in a time of 55.71.
    The boys’ side, team places and scores went like this: Fairfield 150, Shelby 121, Cut Bank 109, Choteau 104, Conrad 41.
    Clark Irvin who placed in four events paced the Cowboys.
    He ran to a second place in the 300H 41.4, was third in the 100HH in 16.9, fourth in the 100m dash at 11.8 and fifth in the 200m run in 24.7.
    Cutter Martin placed in two events, getting third in the pole vault at 10-0 and coming in sixth in the 800m run in 2:26.1.  Josiah Moerkerke also placed in two events, getting fifth in the pole vault at 9-6 and sixth in the 100HH in 18.5
    Aaron Lehnerz went over the bar at 10-0 in the pole vault to get a third place for the Cowboys. Boyd Matheson threw the spear 105-6 to get fourth place in the javelin event.
    The 4x100 relay team of Moerkerke, Cork Chase, Stefan Sommer and Irvin raced to a fifth place in the time of 48:25. The 4x400 relay team of Moerkerke, Paul O’Brien, Norman Vanderbush, and Brandon Philipps cruised to a fifth place finish in the time of 3:58.53.
    The top five places in individual events and relays travel to Glasgow this weekend for the Northern Divisional meet.
