By Buck Traxler, I-O Editor
Tuesday evening was nothing short of a political junkies dream at the Pondera Golf Club.
Despite a few no-shows, there were enough national, state and local office seekers to fill everyone’s plate.
Montana’s lone Representative Denny Rehberg, was on hand to present the keynote address.
U.S. Senate candidates Mike Lange and Kirk Bushman were present. Noticeably absent were four others, Patty Lovaas, Shay J. Garnett, Anton Pearson, and the perennial runs-for-everything-candidate Bob Kellerher.
Roy Brown, running to unseat the incumbent governor, Brian Schweitzer was here, however, Larry H. Steele was not.
Both candidates seeking the top law enforcement job in the state were present, Tim Fox and Lee Bruner.
Running for State Auditor is Duane Grimes and the incumbent Secretary of State Brad Johnson were present and were circulating around the crowd of voters. Elaine Herman, a candidate for the open position as Superintendent at OPI (Office of Public Instruction) was not in attendance.
Representative Llew Jones and Senator Jerry Black, both running unopposed were on hand. Jones did duty as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
The only local race is for Clerk of District Court with incumbent Kara Thompson and challenger Dave Brownell who were both present.
In his keynote address, Rehberg jumped on the Bush bandwagon, talking about Iraq saying, “We were there for a reason. There are people in the world who do not like our freedom(s), our religion or us. Bush is a victim of his own success. When we’re not attacked, we lose sight.”
