Cardinals move league record to 7-7
UNLEASHED – Tri-County Cardinal pitcher Brent Bandow fires a pitch to a Great Falls Stallion batter in last Tuesday’s contest. He hooked up in a pitchers dual and the game was scoreless for six innings when the Stallions scored one run and made stand up for the 1-0 win.     The Tri-County American Legion team has moved their conference record to 7-7 for the season and 12-19 overall.
On July 2, they played the Great Falls Stallions in Conrad.
The team won a suspended game, called for darkness earlier in Great Falls when they were leading 3-2 going to the top of the seventh inning.
The Cards didn’t score and in the bottom of the seventh, Orin Johnson fanned two batters and got another batter to ground out to first to preserve the win for Colby Johnson.
In that contest, the Cards got three runs on eight hits and had no errors. The Stallions had two runs on three hits and committed three errors.
    C. Johnson went 2-4, O. Johnson 1-3, John Johannsen 1-4, Brent Bandow 2-4, Jade Premo  1-3, and Bjorn Swanson 1-3.
In the following game, Bandow started for the Cards and Abraham Griffith for the Stallions. The two pitchers locked up in the duel that didn’t see a runner cross the plate until the top of the sixth when the Falls’ boys pushed a run across that stood up for the 1-0 win.
The Cards had some chances. In the second a walk to Mike Shea and a single between third and shortstop by Swanson put runners at first and second with one out. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Joey Hallenberg then ripped a liner towards right center, but right at the second baseman who made an unassisted double play.
In the top of the third C. Johnson, who patrols centerfield, made a nifty running catch of a potential extra base hit.
Bandow hit a batter on a full count then fanned a batter. But with two outs a Stallion got a base knock to right and a bad toss to the infield put runners at second and third with two out.
Facing his counterpart, Bandow worked the count full. Griffith then fouled off four pitches before Bandow slipped a fastball by him for a called third strike.
In the bottom of the fourth, Bandow led off and stroked a double to right field. But he was stranded there as Jake Robison popped to the shortstop, O. Johnson popped out  to the first baseman and Shea fanned.
The Stallions scored their one run in the top of the sixth and that was how the game ended.
Swanson was 1-2 and Bandow 1-3. He gave up seven hits, walked four and fanned three.
In the nightcap, the Cards rebounded for a 3-1 win. Alford pitched five innings to get the win with O. Johnson mopping up for the save.
Robinson went 2-3, scoring a run with one RBI. O. Johnson had 2 RBIs and was 1-3.
Friday the Cards faced the Black Sox and lost another close contest, 9-11.
Chet Pannabecker pitched three innings and suffered the loss giving up eight hits and eight runs. Dave Ratzburg pitched three innings, and Styren, C. Johnson and O. Johnson also got in some time on the mound.
The Cards got their nine runs on six hits and committed two errors.
On July 5, the team split a doubleheader with the Vauxhall Spurs, losing 12-1 and then coming back to win 10-0.
    C. Johnson went 1-2, scored a run and had a double. Bandow was 2-3 with one a RBI and Robison was 1-2.
Robison suffered the loss, going 3-1/3 innings. He gave up eight hits, 10 runs, walked two and fanned five. Ratzburg pitched 1-2/3 innings, gave up four hits and two runs, walked no one and had a pair of strikeouts.
In the nightcap. Premo went 3-4 with 2 RBIs; Robison 2-3, one run, one RBI; Shea 2-3, 1 run, one RBI; Macias 1-2, one run, 1 RBI; Styren 1-3, double and one RBI; and Bandow was 3-4 with two runs, two RBIs, a double and a triple.
