Page 1 of 2 Chief of Police Gary Dent has presented his year-end officer activity report for 2006. The department now consists of Patrolman III Travis Alexander, Patrolman II Mike Galloway, who is soon to join the county sheriff’s squad, Patrolmen I Jason Korst and Scott Buennemeyer and part-time Patrolmen I Joe Leggett and Brian Widhalm. This past year (2006) saw a slight increase in the number of calls for service, 2,377 from 2,318 the year before. After taking a big dip in calls for formal complaints, 263 in 2004 down to just 182 in ’05, the phone line to the police department again got busy with 219 calls coming through. Warnings given out by officers dropped this past year, 324 compared to 334 the year before. An interesting pattern is beginning to develop in the number of arrests. In even years the number goes up while in the odd years they go down. For example, in 2002 the department had 462 total arrests. In 2003 that number fell to 396. In 2004 it exploded up to 537 and in 2005 there was a big dip down to 434 arrests. But, 2006 being an even year, the number of arrests took off and was up to 509. It was the second highest number of arrests in the last 20 years.
