NEW DECORATION – Standing on a corner, watching all the girls go by. There weren’t too many to watch, but at least this new snowman was paying attention to the street signs above as he waited to be placed on a light pole on Saturday morning. I-O Photo by Buck Traxler A musical repast to satisfy the most fastidious will make the rafters of the Orpheum Theatre/Wiegand Auditorium ring on Dec. 9. The concert will feature the Great Falls Symphonic Choir (their third stage appearance in Conrad), a selection of stimulating soloists, and two teenage soloists. The menu offers music for all tastes, from traditional Christmas songs to a piece from the Muppet Christmas show. The 40 members of the Great Falls Symphonic Choir will be directed by Kathleen Macintosh and accompanied by Cyndi Addison. The Choir members welcome the acoustic properties and the intimacy of the Orpheum and plan to voice their appreciation with their music in the December concert. The soloists are all Montana artists. Soprano Debbie Sherman Sheasby grew up in Conrad. She has been extremely active in music in Great Falls, having founded the Great Falls Young People’s choir in 1989. She teaches flute, accompanies music recitals and directs music in her church. She has played first chair flute in the Great Falls Symphony for several years, and now sings in the choir. Jennifer Cantley, contralto, is a music graduate of MSU-Bozeman and now teachers in a Great Falls middle school as well as being a major soloist with the Great Falls Symphonic Choir. Her credits include singing in and directing major musicals, teaching voice and adjudicating music festivals and NATs. Tenor Alex Rosenleaf includes a minor in vocal performance in his graduate honors from the UofM-Missoula. He started studying voice at the age of 10, demonstrating unusual vocal prowess even at this young age. Currently, he is employed by the Great Falls Tribune. He is in great demand as a soloist in his spare time. Their solos will include Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Sweet Jesus Boy, O Holy Night, Gesu Bambino, Ave Maria, and a number from the Muppet Christmas Show. Two teenage violinists will add spice to an already appetizing menu with their string performances of Christmas favorites. Deanna Sheasby, 17, and David Sheasby, 13, play for weddings, musicals, recitals and at churches. In addition to their guest performances at the Orpheum, they will play Christmas music at the Meadowlark County Club in Great Falls. Both young people are home schooled. Deanna studies voice and dance and David sang in a national youth choir last year in Florida. Pondera Arts Council President Helen Elliott noted that his will be, “A fabulous Christmas concert, one you should not miss.” The curtain goes up at 3 p.m., Dec. 9 at the Orpheum Theatre/Wiegand Auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door, for $10 for adults and $5 for students. Children under the age of five get in for free.
