City council changes dates for New Year PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 21 December 2006
The New Year will bring a change in the January council meeting dates.
Because of recognized holidays, New Years Day (Jan. 1) and Martin Luther King Day Jr., Day (Jan. 15) the council’s regular Monday session will be shifted to Tuesday to start out the New Year.
It will only be for the month of January that the council will meet on Jan 2, and Jan. 16. The meetings will start at 7:30 p.m. as usual in city hall. Be sure to mark your calendar.
In other business, city worker Curt Ries was recognized for job duty that went above and beyond the normal scope of requirements. He received a special certificate from Mayor Jon Shevlin. He was nominated by I-O Editor Buck Traxler and office manager Nancy Zelenka.
Resolution 935 was passed by council members. It authorizes the city to purchase surplus property from the state as it becomes available.
A refund of $564.20 on a building permit passed. The permit was originally passed on the contingency that the property would be sold, however, the sale did not happen.
There was discussion, but no action, on the community service program. The county is going to hire Monica Huffman to run the program. The city is working on a way to offer their position to Huffman as well. There is $2,100 budgeted for the program. This will be taken up at a future meeting.
On a follow-up, the owner of the Lariat came to city hall and paid the city license of $200.
An amendment (number two) with Beard Environmental was approved for $1,272 to be added to the original contract of $22,072.60. It deals with cost overruns on the Lake Frances water project.
A request from the Conrad Chamber of Commerce to use one of the city’s days at Norley Hall for their annual banquet on Feb. 27, 2007 was approved. Also approved for the CofC was a June 27, 2007 date for a work clinic.
A monthly financial report from Agnes Fowler and a report by Eugene Underdahl on the landfill were read and approved. Fowler told the council, “We’re within the realm of what we budgeted for.”
Mayor Shevlin added, “I’m very satisfied with the way the budget is going.”
Tobin Arnold, who was recently hired by the city, had a request for early use of vacation time.
He is still on probation and due to medical issues has already used up his sick time. The request was approved with the provision that if he leaves his position early he will have to reimburse the city for the time used.
