The City of Conrad was notified on Monday that its application to develop a Growth Policy has been chosen for funding.
The Montana Department of Commerce has allocated (tentatively) the maximum amount of $15,000 for the project from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)-Housing and Public Facilities funds.
This year there were 23 government entities that submitted CDBG applications. Of them, 21 will receive funding and Conrad was ranked number six, scoring 355 points.
Carbon County will also receive the maximum amount of $15,000, was ranked first with 405 points on the scoring system.
The five-point ranking matrix gave points for 1. The relationship to long-term community planning; 2. Need for planning activity, 3. Community efforts and financial need; 4. Benefit to low and moderate income; and 5. First-time recipient and/or innovative proposal.
Conrad received 125, 80, 50, 60, and 40 points respectively.
Grant requests this year totaled $311,402. Funding for the Planning Grant process was $256,708. However, because of the high needed identified and quality of proposals, another $24,694 will be added from re-allocated funds for a total grant amount of $281,402.
Before the city actually receives the funds, a contract between the Commerce Department and Conrad needs to be prepared for the project and a budget and implementation schedule made up.
Mayor John Shevlin commented, “I’m very pleased with councilwoman Wendy Judisch and Agnes Fowler, City Finance Officer, for their diligent, hard work. Now, we’ll proceed down the road.”
