Wednesday, 02 May 2007
Elections will be held this fall in the City of Conrad to elect two aldermen (council members) each for a four-year term.
The alderman seats to be filled are currently held by Wally McHenry, in Ward 1, and, in Ward 2, L. Sandy Syvertson.  Ward 1 consists of Precinct 24 and Ward 2 is Precinct 27
Candidates must be 18 years of age, a resident of Montana for two years and a resident of the ward for at least 60 days prior to the date of the election.
In all cases, the individual must be a registered voter.
The filing dated began on April 30 and closes on June 28, at 5 p.m. for both Conrad and Valier.  Candidates need to file at the office of the Clerk and Recorder in the courthouse and pay the filing fee. Filing forms are also available at the town office in Valier.
Filing fees are based on the salary of the elected official.
In Conrad, the alderman’s annual salary is $3,588.60 and the filing fee is one percent of the annual salary or $35.89.
For the Valier position, the annual salary is $600 and the filing fee is $15.
Municipal elections in Pondera County are non-partisan and no party affiliation needs to be declared.
The Town of Valier will also be electing two aldermen in the fall.
Positions on the ballot are one four year term in Ward 1, which is the area east of 5th St., currently held by Vicki Pulver, and one four year term in Ward 2, the area west of 5th St., currently held by Dorothy Stoddard.
The ordinances of Valier state that aldermen must be at least 18 years of age, a resident of Montana for two years and resident in the Ward they will represent for at least one year prior to the date of the election.
An alderman in Valier must also be a freeholder (owner of real property) in the town. In all cases, the individual must be a registered voter.
The opening date to file for the Conrad-Valier positions began April 30.
If a primary election is necessary, it will be held Sept. 11.  Since the election is nonpartisan, a primary may not be necessary, depending on how many candidates file for the positions.
The General election will be Nov. 6.
If you have questions or need more information, please contact the Clerk and Recorder’s office, located on the main floor of the Courthouse, or call 271-4000.
