Winning team points were the team of Traxler-Bouma, who was 2-0 for the day and celebrating his 60th birthday. What a present! Other team winners were Jensen-Dutro; Arvidson-Newmiller; Pribnow-Dahl; Taylor-Judisch; and VanDyke-Schlepp. Losing matches were D. Orcutt-Miller; Hellinger-R. Orcutt; L. Orcutt-Billings; and Vandenacre-G. Orcutt. After the first day Conrad led the pack with 13 points followed by Shelby with 11 and Cut Bank 6. Sunday, at the PGC, it looked to be a shootout between Conrad and constant winner Shelby. For awhile it became close, but Conrad players in the afternoon matches weathered 90-plus degree heat and closed the door, rolling to one of the biggest winning margins in the history of the eight year classic tournament. Early on G. Orcutt-Jared VandenBos suffered a losses to Shelby players, tying the match up. Then Vandenacre gained a split and Wyatt Frydenlund won his match and Conrad was back up by one point. Traxler lost his match and Shelby was back within a point. Cowboy golfer, R. Orcutt, a junior, came on to defeat Chip Miller of Shelby to get the homeboys a two-point lead. Dutro fell in his match and Shelby was once again back within one point. But Jensen, Billings and Arvidson pulled out victories. Arvidson chipped in from about 20 yards off the 18th hole for a birdie to win his match in dramatic fashion. Other winners were Dahl, D. Orcutt, Schlepp, Gannon, Taylor got a half-point with a tie, while VanDyke and Richard Stapleton capped the afternoon with victories. L. Orcutt, Pribnow, Tyler Eisenzimer and Judisch each had a loss. Nevertheless, the final score looked like this: 1st CONRAD 25, 2nd Shelby 19.5, and 3rd Cut Bank 15.5. Shelby surrendered the tournament trophy to Conrad and celebration of eight frustrating years began. Proceeds from the tournament go to the benefit of junior golf programs in all three cities and this year, just as this writer predicted last year, Conrad gets the bragging rights for having the best team in the tri-county area. Next year, Conrad will defend their title, playing in Shelby and Cut Bank.
