By Buck Traxler, I-O Editor Right before the council meeting began on Monday, Cub Scouts from Pack 531 led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. The scouts on hand were James Koontz, Kyle Murack, Kyle Wentworth, and Cordell Wittmier. Their pack leader is Dr. Rich Murack. Looking down the road, representatives from the Conrad Swimming team were on hand Monday night to make a request of the city council. Team Coach Llew Jones, along with Craig Barringer requested use of the swimming pool for a divisional tournament on July 25-27. They also wanted to make sure a garbage truck would be available. Public Works Director Rich Anderson said that one of the old trucks would be available. Council members moved on a 4-0 vote to allow the Swim Team the use of the pool. As in the past, campers would be able to set up in the Swimming Pool Park as well as Legion Park and a block on 6th Ave. adjacent to the park will be closed to traffic. Council members discussed a health insurance policy for city employees. The council will have a work session before making a final decision, which is due May 2. A number of building permits were approved by the council and they included one at 302 Central for a new fence and gate; at 1 S. Wisconsin for a new chain link fence and another at 119 S. Virginia for a new front porch. A discussion on the juvenile community service quarterly report was put off until the next meeting. Council members approved a contract with the Army Corps of Engineers concerning the lagoon project. The next regular meeting of the council will be on May 5 at 7:30 p.m. in city hall, 411-1/2 S. Main.
