Conrad traveled down the highway to Cascade to open the season and spotted the host team an early 6-0 lead. Scotty Schlosser roared through the line and blocked the PAT kick. After that is was all Cowboys except for a later Badger safety that had no bearing on the outcome as Conrad notched a big first win for Coach Joe Moerkerke in his debut as a head coach. Running back Austin Breding ran in a score from four yards out and Luke Weisgram booted the PAT for a 7-6 lead. In the second quarter, Breding again bulled into the end zone from four yards out for a 13-6 lead. Later in the quarter, Cowboy signal caller, Josiah Moerkerke, dialed up a connection with Lane Judisch on an 11 yard TD and Breding ran home a two-point PAT for a 21-6 lead which stayed that way until the fourth quarter. Conrad picked up 297 yards of total offense, 266 rushing and 31 passing. Breding led the ground game with 76 yards. Moerkerke was 3-8 passing. Bjorn Swanson led the defense with nine tackles and a pass pick. Logan Erickson had seven tackles and Cutter Martin also had an interception. Friday the Cowboys are in Manhattan for another road game. They open at home on Sept. 14 with the Fairfield Eagles coming to town.
