Conrad had, with little trouble, dispatched the Bulldogs twice in the regular season. In Thursday’s game, the contest was anybodies to be had going to the fourth period, which belonged to Conrad as they overcame a one point deficit to win 58-47. Coach Tyson Anderson commented, “We struggled shooting the ball. Give Choteau credit for playing us tough defensively. We made our free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.” Overall, there were 13 lead changes and seven ties in the game. Brent Bandow pumped home the first six points for the Cowboys in the first period which saw three ties and four lead changes on the way to an 11-11 tie. In the second quarter, Choteau’s Josh Repko nailed a three ball for a 14-11 lead at the beginning of the period. Lane Judisch drove the baseline for a score, was fouled and completed the three-point play to tie the contest back up at 14-14. Gage hit a hoop and Norby, Prewett and Grubb added scores as the Cowboys built a slim 25-23 lead at the break. After the intermission, the Bulldogs rallied in the third period for a 33-34 lead going into the final eight minutes. In that time frame, the Cowboys went on a 25-13 run with 17 of those points coming from the line. Grubb, who led the Cowboys in scoring with 15 markers, sliced the nets for 10 points, all from the free throw line in the final stanza. He hit for one trey, grabbed five rebounds had one assist and one steal. Bandow rang up the till for 12 points, eight coming in the fourth period. He was four-for-four at the line. Eric Norby was right behind with 11 points. Prewett popped for eight scores, Gage hit for five, Judisch put up four, Josiah Moerkerke had two and Riley Styren a free throw. Conrad pulled down 36 rebounds, had 10 assists, 13 turnovers to 19 for Choteau and 12 steals Conrad scored on 18-54 shots from the floor for 33 percent shooting and was 19-25 at the line for 69 percent shooting. The Cowboys got 16 points off of turnovers and six points off the bench while Choteau got zero. That win may have been the most important because it guaranteed the Cowboys at the very least fourth place in the tournament and a trip to Malta for the divisionals.
