Page 1 of 2 REGROUPING – The Cowboy football team regroups during halftime to make adjustments during the Manhattan grid contest. They were down 6-0 at the break and then suffered a 14-7 loss, their first of the season. They open at home on Friday against Fairfield. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Photo courtesy of Kelly Martin Conrad traveled to Manhattan on Friday for a non-conference contest and suffered a tough loss, 14-7. The Cowboys and Tigers played a scoreless first quarter, trading punts. Conrad had two possessions, both went for three plays and out, and they gained a total of 10 yards. In the second quarter, midway through the period, the team got their first-first down when a Tiger player ran into Lane Judisch for a roughing the kicker penalty while he was punting. However, Manhattan came back, picking off a Josiah Moerkerke pass. Austin Breding made a TD saving tackle at the one-yard line and from there it took two plays for the Tigers to score. The PAT try was no good and it was 0-6 Manhattan. That was all the scoring in the first half. In the third quarter, the Tigers went on top 0-12 off of a 19 yard scoring run and added a two-point PAT, upping the margin to 0-14. The Cowboys answered right back with a 10 play drive, helped by a third roughing the kicker penalty while Judisch was punting. Breding got to the outside on an end around play and zoomed 30 yards down the sideline, followed by Logan Erickson with a nine yard scamper to the one yard line. Moerkerke took the ball home on a quarterback sneak and the PAT kick by Luke Weisgram put the Cowboys right back in the contest 7-14. The fourth quarter was scoreless and that was the contest. However, during the final minute, Conrad made it interesting. Moving the ball, the team got a first down on a fourth and 15 play, only to have it called back for an illegal block. On a fourth and 30 situation, a pass was incomplete and the Tigers took over at the 31-yard line.
