I-O Photo by Buck Traxler The Cowboy football team saw their record fall to 1-2, overall, with a 27-0 loss to Fairfield on Friday. Early on, both teams were trading three down and out series of play and punts. Midway through the first period, Bjorn Swanson recovered an Eagle fumble at the 50-yard line. However, two running plays and a pass gained no yards forcing Conrad to punt. An Eagle player got through the line and blocked the kick and Fairfield put together a 36 yard-eight play drive that ended in a score with 2:37 to play in the period and a 0-7 lead. A bad kick off by the Eagles gave Conrad good field position at the 35 yard line, but a nine-play drive that carried into the second quarter eventually resulted in a punt back to the Eagles. The Eagles put together a six-play drive that resulted in a 44 yard run for a TD with 5:48 to go in the first half. The PAT was no good and the Eagles were on top 0-13. Late in the period, the Eagles were knocking on the door with a first down at the 10 yard line. However, the Cowboy defense made a nifty goal line stand and took over on downs at the five. With less than :40 to go, they let the clock run out. The Eagles scored two TDs in the third period and the game ended like that, 27-0. Conrad had a total offense of 118 yards, 31 passing on 6-12 attempts by Josiah Moerkerke. He had one interception. Conrad picked up 87 yards on the ground with Austin Breding getting 37 on 11 carries and Moerkerke 30 on 12 carries. Bjorn Swanson and Eric Norby led the team in tackles. The Eagles picked up over 300 yards of offense, 82 on passing and 152 from tailback Ethan May who scored three runs. Friday night the Cowboys host Choteau, 2-1 overall, in what is the first conference game for both teams. The ’Dawgs lost their opening season to Ennis and since then have come back to stop Fairfield 14-13 and romp over Cascade 32-0. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m.
