Crawford elected Lt. Governor at first Girls’ State
HONORED AT GIRLS’ STATE – Pam Crawford, on the right, was a honored guest at Girls’ State in Helena recently as they had a 60th anniversary.     The 2008 Montana American Legion Auxiliary Girls’ State was held at Carroll College June 1-7.
The first Girls’ State was held in 1948 in Billings, making this session in Helena the 60th year of the annual event.
Pam Cottam Crawford, formerly of Hardin, was elected to the position of Lt. Governor at the first meeting of Girls’ State 60 years ago in 1948.

Crawford was one of two honored guests as a 1948 Girls’ State delegate. The other was Marian Vickers Fergerson, also formerly of Hardin, who was elected to the State Auditor position. She is now a resident of Cody, Wyo.
The 2008 delegates from Conrad were Melissa Barringer and Sydney Philipps. This year there were 234 Girls’ Staters that participated.
