Date change in future for Lions Club Whoop-Up PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 15 December 2006
Due to declining numbers the Conrad Lions Club is looking to change a long-standing tradition and change the date of their Whoop-Up rodeo.
Last year, even though the 66th annual two-day rodeo was blessed with good weather, the Lions Club lost approximately $3,000.
The present plan is to push the rodeo date back to the second weekend in June, which would put the celebration on the days of June 8-9.
Other Conrad festivities, such as the Chamber of Commerce parade and the Antique Auto Show would also move to that date.
By moving the date, rodeo organizers feel they can attract more cowboys for events and better crowds at the gate.
A final decision and vote for the date change will take place at the Lions Club next regular meeting on Jan. 8, 2007.
We would welcome your comments or ideas on the proposed change. Comments may also be made to Mark Leys, club president, or Dan Majerus, rodeo chairman.
