By Buck Traxler, I-O Editor Public Works Director Richard Anderson told city council members Monday evening that the new garbage truck is in Great Falls having some additional work done on it. A newer heavy-duty alternator is being put in and cameras for side and top viewing from inside the truck cab need to be installed. He is hoping it will be here by the end of the week. People are asked not to use the new containers yet. Until the new refuse truck is here there is no way for city crews to empty the placed containers. Information will be placed in the I-O when they are ready for use. Anderson noted, “It will be a slow start and there will be a lot of adjustments and leveling to do, but we’ll get her done.” To no ones real surprise, a new restaurant will be opening on Main St. Joe’s Family Steak House will occupy what was formerly Conrad’s Supper Club and Red Garter Casino and more recently the defunct Club House/Tech Rec at 404 S. Main. An exact date has not yet been secured, however, owners William J. Campbell, Jr. and William J. Campbell III have applied for the transfer of a beer and wine license under the name of Joe’s Family Steak House. Chief Gary Dent reported that there were 168 calls for service in January. Officers gave seven rides home from the local taverns. One DUI was issued. There were six domestic incidents, two businesses found open, five security checks done, eight assists to the PCSO, 21 to the ambulance crews, nine accidents and six thefts to name a few of the calls received. Attorney T. Kai Lee is working on criminal prosecutions, has drafted a number of resolutions, did updates to the policy manual and drafted ordinances. There were no water contracts or building permits to act on. It was noted that Mayor John Shevlin was in Bozeman at a mayor’s conference. Alderman Sandy Syvertson, as council chairman, presided over the meeting. A second reading of Ordinance 392, concerning the appointment of officers and Ordinance 393, dealing with the appointment of the city judge took place. They will be acted on at the next council meeting. Two resolutions, R-392 and R-393 were passed. The first allows the city to join 1st Liberty Credit Union. The second allows Finance Officer Agnes Fowler to purchase a CD from the credit union. The next regular meeting of the city council will take place on Feb. 19, 7:30 p.m. at city hall. The meeting was moved to Tuesday because Feb. 18, George Washington’s birthday, is an observed holiday.
