Harold Olson honored by his peers |

Harold Olson recently received the Bowel of Hygeia award, which is presented to a Montana Pharmacist who has distinguished himself to the profession by their commitment to pharmacy practice and community service. Olson received the award, being selected by past recipients, at a meeting of the Montana Pharmacy Association in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He received his undergraduate degree from Concordia College and his BS in Pharmacy from the UofM-Missoula. Olson owned and operated Drake’s Drug Store in Conrad and purchased the Pondera Drug Company, which he integrated with Drakes and then operated as Olson’s Drug Store. He sold his business in 1989. Currently he is semi-retired, working 5-6 weeks a year as a pharmacist in several area communities. Olson has been the chairman of the Economic Development Corporation of Pondera County, President of the Pondera County Historical Society, Vice-President of the Pondera Arts Council, Past President of the Jaycees, Kiwanis, Toastmasters, Chamber of Commerce, Conrad Council on Aging, First Lutheran Church Council, Pondera Valley Lutheran Church, Triangle Car Club, Montana Antique and Classic Auto Club, Pondera Chapter of the American Red Cross, and the Montana Republican Central Committee. As president of the History Association, he guided the development of the Montana Transportation Museum and helped locate it in a historic auto dealership in Conrad. He was on the Port Authority board of directors and a senior judge for the V-8 Ford of America. He is a member of the Big Sky Chapter Model A Club. Other honors Olson has received include being the “Key Man” from the Kiwanis Club, Distinguished Service Award, Outstanding Young Men of America, Businessman of the Year, Outstanding Jaycee President, and the Unsung Hero award from the Conrad CofC, the Silver Spur award from the Montana Farm Forum, and he is listed in Who’s Who in America.
