Archie Bishop – Whoop-Up Grand Marshall Break out the chaps, sharpen your spurs and polish your saddles, the 68th annual Conrad Lions Club Whoop-Up Trail Days Celebration rides into town this weekend. The biggest-little event in all of Montana will kick up mud, not dust, mud, with two huge days of rodeo events on Saturday and Sunday and some other gala happenings getting everyone in the right mood starting on Thursday. The Pondera Players are back on the stage at Norley Hall, getting the weekend ready to rock and roll with the production of Lucky Stiff. The curtain goes up Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with this laughable comedy. Handicap parking and a shuttle service are available. On Friday, golfers will tee off at the Pondera Golf Club at 9 a.m. with the Whoop-Up four person scramble. Last year, the first for the tourney, the team of T.J. Bennyhoff, Doug Bennyhoff, Sean Brown and Tyler Eisenzimer littered the course with birdies, shooting a 16 under par 56 to win the event. There is still time to put a team together. For more information, contact Teri Jo Fitzgerald at the PGC, 278-3402. Also at the PGC, starting at 7 p.m. there will be a Calcutta. You can buy your favorite and hope he places at the rodeo. At 5 p.m. the Whoop-Up Fun Fest will take place in the Meadowlark School gym. This happening is for kids in grades 1-8 and is sponsored by the sophomore class at the high school. There will be hoop shoots, face painting and a wide variety of activities for the younger students. Saturday morning, you can get your head off of the saddlebags pillow and head over to the Meadowlark School for the Lions Club free ham and pancake breakfast. Lions Club members start serving up the grub at 7 a.m. The short cakes are expertly prepared to a golden brown by Ray Stoetzel and Dan Wilcox. The special beer-batter is prepared by Byron Grubb and Lyle Orcutt and they won’t let the secret out of just how the ingredients are put together. The breakfast is one of the major social gatherings of the year and not something you want to miss. Outside groups, please take note; there is NO soliciting here.
