In 1958 on a cold January day, Harry and Lola Arvidson bought what we now call the Home Café. Within the last 50 years there’s been a lot of history made. Patrons are eager to share their stories as if the memories will never fade. Good food and friendliness were always first and foremost. Then came the customers to whom the Arvidsons played host. For numerous years when Conrad was a bustling own, the café continued to operate without even shutting down. They finished the 50s and in the 60s got things going strong. By then both the Arvidson family and the community knew that the Home Café was where it belonged. Getting through the 70s was a feat indeed; serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in this small town with that great need. Then came the 80s. By now, the café had established friends from here and afar. And once a person had eaten the homemade fries, no others were up to par. The time came for Harry and Lola to retire to a life of travel and ease. That is the moment when Scott and Pam Arvidson embraced the business and acquired the keys. The change of hands was in 1982. Scott and Pam began in November and knew exactly what they had to do. Since then Pam has worked hard and taken over the baking. Her cinnamon rolls, soups and pies are essentially miracles in the making. Scott has contributed in many ways; his job description is different just about every day. The manager, the fix-it man, the cook, and even a good boss if you take a second look. So, thank you Arvidson family for all your service and time; too many kudos to fit in this rhyme. Congratulations on your 50 years in business! Written and submitted by Lisa Hawley.
