Amy Krause of Conrad will join thousands of other dedicated women and men at the Phoenix Breast Cancer 3-Day walk benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust.
After what seems like a long time of training, Krause will walk 60 miles during three days to raise awareness and funds for critical research and community outreach programs.
She tells the I-O, “When my sister and several close friends were diagnosed with breast cancer I felt helpless. I wanted to do something to feel like I was helping.”
Krause went on to add, “As a Breast Cancer 3-Day participant, I have an opportunity to celebrate breast cancer survivorship, honor those who lost their lives to the disease, and ultimately, have an enormous impact on awareness and funding for breast cancer research and community outreach programs.”
The Arizona walk will begin on Nov. 14 and end with the closing ceremony on Nov. 16.
The walkers will cover about 20 miles a day, traveling at their own pace.
“We will be supported by volunteer crews who will provide meals, liquid and snack stops, gear transport, hot showers, portable restrooms, and 24-hour medical services,” Krause noted.
The actual journey starts months in advance when walkers started training and raising the $2,200 required fund-raising minimum.
To help raise funds she is raffling off a one-of-kind Cowboy quilt.
You can contact her in the evenings at 271-5430 or purchase a raffle ticket or make a tax-deductible donation at her booth at the Harvest Festival on Oct. 11.
In addition, you can get more information or make a donation directly to her online donation page at www.the3day.org/goto/amyjo.
