Dave and Barbara Meuli of Conrad, breeder, owner and handler of CH. Fairway Amazing Midnite Bash, “Mazie”, a Curly Coated Retriever has the dogs of her first litter invited to the Eukanuba Classic, Dec. 1-2 in Long Beach, Calif.
A former resident of Pondera County, Sylvia Mattson, owner, breeder, and handler of Chihuahuas has been invited for the fourth time. She will be taking Ch. Dartan’s Silhouette at Déjà vu. Rumor Has It will be shown prior to the Classic at the Long Beach All Breed Show.
Her parents are Louie and Hanna Bachmeier of Brady.
Mattson has shown many of her Chihuahuas to championships. This is no small feat in the era of the professional handler. She has been involved in the dog fancy for 12 years.
At the Eukanuba, there will be 2,500 top dogs of 160 breeds, representing all 50 states and 40 countries. They come to the show by invitation only and will be competing for $225,000 in prize money and other honors.
On Dec. 1, all dogs will compete in their own breed for the Best of Breed honor. All the Best of Breed dogs in each breed will then compete in seven groups; Sporting Hound, Toy and Non-Sporting will compete on Saturday. Working, Terrier, and Herding dogs will compete Sunday as well as the coveted Best in Show.
The two Curlies from Montana are Am/Can Ch. Dryfork Sleigh Belle of Carter, owned by Judy Wargo and Bill Potts and Dryfork Emancipation of Great Falls, owned by Dr. Michelle Lague DVM and Gareth Redgrave. They will be attending the show.
Ch. Dryfork Larry-Curly-Moe from Maplewood, Minn., owner Linda Rush is invited, but unable to attend.
Mazie of Conrad was a Best Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite to the Best of Breed at the 2002 National Curly Coated Retriever Specialty held in Longmont, Colo.
She was invited to the 2003 Eukanuba Classic as one of the top Curlies of America.
The Eukanuba Classic will be broadcast on Animal Planet, shown on cable or satellite.
