Last month a few local churches in Conrad decided to partner together in sponsoring movie night to be held the second evening of each month.
While the movies are shown at the Mission church, members from all local churches and the community are encouraged to come and enjoy the films.
Pastor Reese VanderVeen from the Christian Reformed Church says the vision for these events is simply to provide a family-friendly form of entertainment that brings people of our community together while encouraging our faith at the same time. “We feel such gatherings not only provide great fellowship, but they also help us to share the joy and power of our faith. Even if we come from different church backgrounds, it is always great when we come together and realize that we all share the same hope. At the same time, we desire that those with limited or no church background will also feel welcome to come.”
Pastor Pete Wetendorf notes, “Of course we are encouraging our members to bring along friends and neighbors who may not otherwise be comfortable attending regular church service. We are striving to show high quality movies that provide great story lines with very entertaining elements while at the same time portraying the real hope of the Gospel.” Last month’s film, Facing the Giants, is a great example of such a film.
Pastor VanderVeen thinks many people are not even aware that such high-quality faith-based films are out there and he says, “Hopefully, we will change that.”
The next film will be shown Sunday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. This film is produced by World Wide Pictures entitled The Climb. It tells the story of two men who share a passion for mountain climbing and who are given a rare opportunity to climb one of the greatest mountains in the world located in southern Chile. Their style in both life and climbing is quite different, however, which makes their climb together difficult even as it becomes life-changing.
Both pastors hope many from the community will come and be blessed by this movie that contains spectacular footage of the Southern Andes and addresses some very relevant issues. They also hope that the second Sunday of the month will become known as “Movie Night”.
The movies are always free, but donations will be appreciated.
