Sun River Electric Cooperative, based in Fairfield, is offering rebates to members making energy efficiency decisions for their residences. Ross Oveson of the coops marketing division tells the I-O, “These programs are new additions to services and products offered by the Touchstone Energy cooperative.” The first efficiency program Sun River offers is in conjunction with the “Energy Star” appliance program being promoted by the U.S. Department of Energy. A qualifying appliance is a refrigerator, freezer, dishwater, or clothes washer that meets the “Energy Star” efficiency rating. To view the applicable standards, go to www.energystar.gov or call Sun River at 1-800-452-7516 or (406) 467-2526. “A qualifying appliance can receive a $25 rebate per appliance,” Oveson says. A second efficiency program promotes high efficiency electric water heaters. If an electric water heater has an efficiency rating of 93 percent and is over 40 gallons, the member is eligible for a $100 rebate. He says members can call the Cooperative to request a rebate form if planning to make a water heater change. Ground source heat pumps are the third rebate program offered. “Using the ground temperature of 50+ degrees to provide heating and cooling year round makes good economic sense,” Oveson said. The Cooperative will rebate the member $200 per ton of system capacity up to a maximum of $1,000 per installation on a Sun River Electric Cooperative account. If you have questions, need more information or details to these programs, or need an application, call Sun River. “It’s important to remember,” Oveson says, “Conserving energy starts at home, one appliance at a time.”
