The Cowboy wrestling squad got a lot of mat time over the weekend with most of the men getting six matches.
The Mining City Dual Wrestling tourney is perhaps the premier dual meet in Montana. It features all the Class AA and most of the top Class A powerhouses like Havre.
In early action on Friday, Conrad won over Helena High 49-30 and Billings West, 56-27.
Highlighting the early mat action, facing Helena, Kyle Judisch won by a pin in 1:24, Johnny Schlosser and Jared Giard won by decisions, as did Logan Erickson. Andrew Lehnerz  won his match by a pin in 1:07 and his brother Aaron took a major decision, 11-1.
Later in the seventh round with Billings West, Judisch took a 9-6 decision, Scott Schlosser won by a technical fall, 17-2, Giard pinned his man in 1:14, Colby Johns did the same in 3:37, Austin Breding got a pin-win in the quick time of :53 and Aaron Lehnerz won by a pin in 3:50.
Saturday, Conrad took to the mats with Hi-Line rival Class A Havre.
The Blue Ponies raced away from the Cowboys and won the match 65-9. The team lost a close match to Glacier, 45-40 and then fell to Billings Skyview 49-34.
Coach Kevin Moritz commented, “We are not a great  dual team because we are not able to fill all the weight classes, but the Cowboys performed well against some tough teams.”
Andrew Lehnerz was named the Cowboy Wrestler of the week. He had a 5-0 record on the mats while wrestling up a weight class.
Coach Moritz commented, “He’s a good quality kid with good balance and a winning attitude.”
The Stepped It Up award went to Judisch who wrestled in two weight classes, 98 and 105 pounds at the Butte meet. He came out of the contest with a 3-2 record.
Giard is the Practice Wrestler of the Week.
Thursday Conrad has their first home meet with Cut Bank coming in for a dual meet.
Then, over the weekend the team is in Great Falls for the CMR Holiday Classic.
