Montana breast and cervical program raffles off quilt
QUILT RAFFLE – The women from Pondera, Teton, Toole, Glacier and Liberty counties, who represent Region 5 of he Montana Breast and Cervical Health Program, have completed this quilt and is ready to be raffled off. Photo courtesy of Christy Nelson, R.N.
Women from Pondera, Teton, Toole, Glacier, and Liberty counties and the Blackfeet Reservation who represent Region 5 of the Montana Breast and Cervical Health Program have completed a quilt.
It will be touring the region until it is raffled off on Oct. 25 at the Pink Ribbon Tea in Choteau. The quilt this year has a Christmas theme and each block has been created with love in honor of friends, relatives, or all women battling breast cancer.
An album will be traveling with the quilt telling the stories that inspired the women who completed the blocks. The quilt was sewn together by Raylene Stark and quilted by Bonnie Field of Rock City Quilts in Valier.
The quilt raffle raises money for the Region 5 Health Screening Fund which helps pay for screenings for high-risk women who do not meet the age guidelines of The Montana Breast and Cervical Health Program. The fund assists women with medical bills related to screenings recommended by their medical provider for breast and/or cervical cancer. Assistance depends on the availability of funds.
Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and are available at Pondera County Health Department. The quilt will be displayed at the Lobby in Conrad from July 7-11 and the Library in Valier from July 14-18. Raffle tickets will be available at both these locations.
The Montana Breast and Cervical Health Program provides education and funds for breast and cervical cancer screening and case management services for women who have abnormal results on their screenings. It pays for yearly mammograms for qualified women 50 and older and Pap tests for qualified women 30 and older. Qualifications include having no insurance or insurance that does not pay for breast and/or cervical screenings and income under 200 percent of poverty.
Region 5 of the MBCHP is always seeking volunteers for our coalition to help with fund raising and outreach activities.  In October the coalition will sponsor a Pink Ribbon Tea, which will be held in Choteau on Oct. 25.  Hostesses are needed for tables at the tea. Tickets for the tea will be available soon. Contact the Pondera County Health Department at 271-3247 for more information.
