The final numbers from the Nov. 7 general election are now official.
Pondera County had eight provisional ballots due to voters who registered and voted on Election Day that had been registered in another Montana county.
Until they could be confirmed that they had not voted at the polls in their former county, they had to be considered provisional and if they had voted at the polls elsewhere, the absentee ballot in Pondera County would not have been counted.
Also, a military ballot was received after Election Day, but prior to the military deadline.
“Therefore, we counted nine ballots on Monday and those have been added to the returns,” noted Janice Hoppes, Clerk and Recorder and Election Administrator.
While it didn’t affect the outcome, Sen. Conrad Burns (1502) picked up eight votes and senator-elect Jon Tester one (1081).
Pondera County had an overall 68 percent voter turnout.  Of the eight precincts, there are 3,917 registered voters and 2,657 people cast a ballot.
There were 52 late registrations and of the 885 absentee ballots issued, 792 were returned.
The absentee ballots broke down like this: In Precinct 19, Brady, 49 of 59 absentee ballots were returned. In Heart Butte, Precinct 20, 11 of 26 were returned.
In Precinct 23, Dupuyer, 23 of 24 ballots were returned.
Precincts 24, 27, 28 now vote at Norley Hall at Blue Sky Villa. Precinct 24 had 251 ballots issued and 226 returned. Precinct 27 had 232 absentee ballots issued and 213 returned and Precinct 28 had 190 given out and 179 returned.
In Valier, Precinct 34 had 63 absentee ballots go out and 52 come back. Also in Valier, Precinct 35 had requests for 40 absentee ballots with 39 being returned.
The county polling stations were busy with voters on a steady basis throughout the day.
