    This year all rosette donors for the Exhibit Building contributed to a general fund, which made it possible to expand the awards offered in the building this year. Donors from Pondera County included Joe Russell Trucking, LLC; Trey Stone; Tanner Stone; Ruby & Glen Bouma; Frontline Ag, and Photographs by Carey.
    Best of Class winners in each age division vied for Best of Show trophies, regardless of age division. The following exhibits earned trophies donated by First State Bank of Shelby:  Best Small Animal Exhibit – Jade Rodriguez; Best Dog Exhibit – Kenny Habets; Best Mechanical Sciences Exhibit – Mariah Sheble; Best Industrial Arts Exhibit – Cassie Peters; Best 4-H Exploration Exhibit – Marisa Habel; Judges Choice Award – Mariah Stoltz.
    4-Hers participated in a number of events prior to and throughout the week of the Fair. Pondera youth also faired well in the various competitions.
    In Fashion Revue, Skylar Stenson earned a plaque for Top Pre-Junior, donated by Prairie Peddler, Shelby. Fashion Revue consists of an interview with a panel of judges prior to the fair, where the participants present themselves in their outfit and explain what they learned in the process of creating it. The outfits are modeled for the public on Saturday at the Fair.
    In the Rabbit Show, Kassady Sheble earned Grand Champion for her buck rabbit, with a plaque donated by CG Consulting, Cut Bank, and Reserve Champion for her doe, with a plaque donated by CHS, Cut Bank. Two of Sheble’s rabbits earned second and third place rosettes, donated by Adamson Farms, Shelby and Judi Rafferty, Cut Bank, respectively. She also earned 3rd in Junior Rabbit Showmanship, with another rosettes donated by Judi Rafferty.
    Sheble wasn’t the only Pondera 4-Her to take home top honors in the rabbit show. Lauren Molnar earned a first place rosette in Junior Showmanship, sponsored by Frontline Ag, Conrad. In Senior Showmanship, Jerrica Harris earned second place and Mariah Sheble took first, with rosettes donated by Adamson Farms and Frontline Ag, respectively. Pondera swept the Overall Showmanship awards with Molnar earning the Reserve Champion rosette, sponsored by Northern Seed Service, Conrad, and Mariah Sheble taking home the Grand Champion plaque, donated by Tom and Angie Welker, Shelby.
    In the poultry show, Lauren Molnar earned several top awards, including the Grand Champion Cock or Cockerel plaque donated by Marshall Farms, Inc, Shelby; a first place rosette for Junior Showmanship, donated by Frontline Ag; and the Reserve Champion Showmanship rosette, donated by Pacerosa, Inc, Sunburst. First year poultry member Malia Curry took home the first place rosette for Pre-Junior Showmanship, donated by Frontline Ag.
    In Cat Showmanship, Jade Rodriguez earned the Grand Champion rosette in the junior age division, donated by Pacerosa, Inc.
Pondera had several competitors in the Dog Show this year, with the majority of them being new to the event. Maria Elings helped many of these showman hone their skills with several weeks of obedience and showmanship classes this summer. In the Sub-Novice A Obedience division, Taylour Russell earned a second place rosette, donated by Maria Elings, Conrad. In the Sub-Novice B Obedience division, Jessica Stenson took home a first place trophy, donated by Dora Mannen, Conrad and the Overall Reserve Champion Obedience rosette, sponsored by Cut Bank Tire. Tia Robinson earned the Overall Grand Champion Obedience trophy, sponsored by Northtown Drug, Shelby.     In Dog Showmanship, first-time showman Kenneth Habets earned the Grand Champion Pre-Junior Showmanship trophy, sponsored by Steve Nichols, CPA, Shelby. In Junior Showmanship, Taylour Russell earned the Reserve Champion Rosette, sponsored by Cut Bank Tire, Cut Bank; and Olivia Knobel took home the Grand Champion trophy, sponsored by Bear Paw Credit Union, Chester. Tia Robinson earned the Senior Division Grand Champion Showmanship trophy, sponsored by Front Porch, Chester. Olivia Knobel earned top honors with the Overall Grand Champion Showmanship trophy, donated by Northern Vet Clinic, Cut Bank.
    In Senior Beef Showmanship, Tia Robinson earned a third place rosette, and Brad Holden earned second place, both sponsored by the Marias Fair Board. Justin Fritz earned title of Overall Reserve Champion Showman, with a rosette donated by Mel & Lynda Fretheim, Shelby. Justin also earned a rosette and plaque donated by the Valier Stockman’s Association and the Marias Fair Board for Overall Grand Champion Fed Beef.
    The Beef Breed Show was new to the Marias 4-H Fair this year. In this event, Brad Holden earned a plaque for the Top Hereford Fed Beef, donated by Holden Hereford, Valier; and Justin Fritz earned a belt buckle for the Top Red Angus Fed Beef (at least 1/2 red angus), donated by Fritz Red Angus, Brady.
    In the Sheep events, William McDougall earned a third place rosette in Pre-Junior Showmanship. Krystal McDougall won second place and Jenna Rodriguez won first in Junior Showmanship. Jayleen Harris earned third, Tia Robinson second, and Jessica Robinson first in Senior Showmanship. Tia and Jessica earned Reserve and Grand Overall Showmanship respectively. The Marias Fair Board donated all rosettes. Tia also had the Grand Overall Fed Lamb with a plaque and rosette, donated by Karla Griffin (Duncan Memorial) and the Marias Fair Board. Krystal McDougall raised the Grand Champion Breeding Sheep, with the award sponsored by Jennifer McDougall.
    In the Swine Show, Krista Judisch earned second place in Pre-Junior Showmanship; Kailey Judisch earned first place in Junior Showmanship. The Marias Fair Board donated rosettes.
    In the Goat Show, Krystal McDougall earned first place in Junior Showmanship. Jayleen Harris earned first place in Senior Showmanship, and a plaque for Grand Overall Showmanship. Marias Fair Board, and the plaque by Annette Freeland, Galata, donated rosettes. Krystal McDougall had both the Grand and Reserve Champion Dairy Goats, with awards donated by Jennifer McDougall. Jayleen Harris had the Grand Champion Meat Goat, with the award donated by McDougall.
    In the Marias Fair 4-H Horse Show, Skylar Stenson earned earne third, Deidre Mecham earned second, and Eli Knobel earned first place in the Pre-Junior Western Showmanship. Knobel earned Grand Pre-Junior Showmanship, receiving a trophy donated by Harmon Quarter Horses, Chester. In Junior Showmanship, Olivia Knobel, Jenna Rodriguez, and Jade Rodriguez earned third, second, and first places respectively. Jade earned Grand Junior Showmanship, with a trophy donated in memory of Tim Russell. Jade also earned the title of Overall Grand Champion Western Showmanship, with a trophy donated by BTI Feeds, Cut Bank. All Showmanship rosettes were donated by the Marias Fair Board.
    In Level One Western Horsemanship, Makayla Connelly earned a third place rosette, donated by Juanita Rodriquez, Conrad. Lauren Molnar earned a Reserve Champion rosette, donated by Dan and Betty Felska, Helena. Skylar Stenson earned Grand Champion with a trophy and rosette from Ramona Kinyon, Galata, and the Marias Fair Horse Committee. In Level Two Western Horsemanship, Taylour Russell won Reserve Champion, rosette donated by D and B Felska. In Level Three, Moranda Brenteson won a third place rosette, sponsored by J. Rodriguez; and Jade Rodriguez earned Grand Champion, with a trophy and rosette sponsored by Glen and Ruby Bouma. In Level Four, Tia Robinson placed third, rosette donated by Rodriguez.
    In Bareback Equitation Level One, Stenson earned third, rosette from Rodriguez. Gabrielle Drishinski earned a Reserve Champion, rosette from Felskas. Makayla Connelly earned Grand Champion, with a rosette and trophy, from Felskas and Diane and Tony Hershey, Galata.  In Level Two, Jenna Rodriguez earned Reserve Champion and Olivia Knobel earned Grand Champion, with rosettes donated by Felskas, and the Grand Champion trophy from Betty Nickol, Ledger. In Level Three, Jade Rodriguez earned the Reserve Champion title, rosette from Felskas.
    In English Horsemanship Level One, Lauren Molnar earned a third place rosette, donated by Rodriguez. Gabrielle Drishinski won Grand Champion with a rosette and trophy from John and Diana Fransen, Shelby and Amy Clark, Shelby. In Level Two, Jenna Rodriguez won Grand Champion, rosette and trophy donated by Hanging M Ranch, Conrad and Carl and Anna Clark, Shelby. In Level Three, Moranda Brenteson earned Reserve Champion, rosette from Main Street True Value, Shelby.
    In the Pre-Junior Trail Class, Eli Knobel earned Reserve Champion. Deidre Mecham earned Grand Champion, with a rosette and a trophy. In Junior Trail, Kailey Judisch earned a Reserve Champion rosette, and Jade Rodriguez took Grand Champion with a rosette and a trophy. All rosettes in this class donated by Alan and Trudy Skari, Chester, and trophies donated by Sunshine Ranch, Conrad.
For the Pre-Junior In-Hand Trail Class, Deidre Mecham earned third place. Gabrielle Drishinski earned first place, with a rosette and trophy – donated by Juanita Rodriguez. In the Junior class, Jade Rodriguez earned a second place rosette and Jenna Rodriguez earned first place, with a rosette and trophy – donated by Ramona Kinyon. Rosettes were all sponsored by Tumbleweed Studio.
    The horse show debuted the Miniature Horsemanship event this year, and Lauren Molnar earned a first place rosette in Level One, sponsored by the Ric and Juanita Rodriguez Family.
    In the Pre-Junior Barrels, Reserve Champion went to Deidre Mecham. In Junior Barrels, Grand Champion went to Taylour Russell. All winners received a prize from Norman’s Western Wear, Cut Bank, and a Rosette from Jim and Karen Hoffmann, Great Falls.
    In the Pre-Junior Pole Bending, Mecham earned Reserve Champion, rosette from Richard Walter, Cut Bank. In Junior Pole Bending, Reserve Champion was earned by Justin Ratzburg, rosette from Keith and Leiha VandenBos, Valier. All top pole benders also received a prize from Norman’s Western Wear.
    In Western Pleasure Level One, Molnar earned third, rosette by Rodriguez. Mikayla Connelly earned Reserve Champion, rosette by Marias Vet Clinic, Shelby. Eli Knobel earned Grand Champion, rosette by Marias Vet Clinic and trophy by Brenda Schleske, Fergus Falls MN. In Level Two, Drishinski earned Reserve Champion and Jenna Rodriguez earned Grand Champion, both received rosettes from Marias Vet Clinic, and Rodriguez received a trophy from Jerry and Sue Smith, Galata. In Levels 3/4, Jade Rodriguez earned Grand Champion, rosette from Marias Vet Clinic and trophy from Philip and Leorra Nickol, Shelby.
    In English Pleasure Level One, Molnar earned Reserve Champion, Drishinski earned Grand Champion. Both received rosettes from Ramona Kinyon, and Drishinski also received a trophy from Bernadette Nickol, Kalispell. In Level Two, Jenna Rodriguez earned Grand Champion, rosette by Ramona Kinyon, and trophy by Bernadette Nickol.
    On Sunday, many 4-Hers received awards in a variety of areas. Melissa Habets sponsored medals for all Cloverbuds who exhibited at the Marias Fair. In Pondera County, those receiving medals were Danny Habets, Logan Parker, Bridger Russell, and Nolan Taule.
    Pondera County High Point Sewing awards went to Krista Judisch – third, Skylar Stenson – second, and Hailey Yeager – first. Pondera High Pointing Cooking awards went to Malia Curry – third, Megan Swanson – second, and Kassady Sheble – first. All rosettes sponsored by Pondera County Extension Homemakers.
    In the Demonstration/Illustrated Talk event, Kassady Sheble was the top Junior Presenter on Thursday and Shannon Elings was the top Senior presenter. Each earned rosettes sponsored by Bradley Ranch, Cut Bank. In Prepared Speech, Jade Rodriguez earned the Overall Top Junior rosette, sponsored by Springhill Ranch, Dupuyer. Jessica Stenson earned the Overall Top Junior rosette for Cowboy Poetry, sponsored by Springhill Ranch.
    In the Livestock awards, Justin and Kyleigh Salois tied for the First Year Swine Member Showing the Most Promise and Swine Herdsmanship. They shared $15 donated by Chi McCuin and a trophy from the Pondera 4-H Council for their efforts. The also earned the Overall Livestock Herdsmanship award, $25 donated by the Marias Fair Livestock Committee. They’re off to a great start in their first year in the swine project.
    The Wingina 4-H Club earned the Beef Club Herdsmanship award, with a banner that they will hang in their Beef display area at the next fair.
    Krystal McDougall earned both the Reserve and Grand Champion Fleece awards, receiving a trophy and a $25, donated by Timber Coulee Columbia’s and Jenifer McDougall.
    In Livestock Judging, Pondera earned a second place award, with a pre-junior team consisting of Krista Judisch, Kenneth Habets, Mikayla Connelly, and Garrett Fritz. The junior team also received a second, with members Justin Salois, Justin Fritz, Kailey Judisch and Justin Ratzburg. The senior division took third place with team members Rob Brenteson, Brad Holden, Cameron Rodriguez, and Cassie Peters. All team members received rosettes from the Marias Fair Board.
    In individual Livestock Judging, Krista Judisch earned third place pre-junior, Justin Salois earned second place junior, and Rob Brenteson earned third place senior. All rosettes sponsored by Marias Fair Board.
    High Point Dog Award for Pondera County, based on exhibits in the 4-H Exhibit Building went to Kenneth Habets, with a rosette sponsored by Maria Elings, Conrad.
    The Marias Fair Shooting Sports tournaments were held prior to Fair, with awards given during the awards ceremony. In Sporter Air Rifle, age 9-10, Skylar Stenson earned second, and in the 13-14 age division, Jade Rodriguez earned second as well, both received rosettes sponsored by Ed Erickson, Conrad and medals from the Shelby Rifle and Pistol Club.
    In Precision Air Rifle, Cameron Rodriguez earned first place for age 15 and up, rosette by Joe Hofer, Shelby and medal by Shelby Rifle and Pistol Club. He also earned Top Overall Precision Shooter, trophy sponsored by Dianne Magee, Browning. Cameron also earned second place in Shotgun in the 15 and up age division, with rosette by Randy and Erin Brenteson Family, Conrad and Medal by Shelby Trap Club.
    In the Primitive Archery discipline,  age 9-10, Clark Judisch earned third place, rosette from Hi-Line Hardware, Chester. In the 11-12 year old division, Kaylee Taule earned second and Moranda Brenteson earned first, rosettes by Windy River Archery Club, Cut Bank. In the Bowhunter Archery discipline, age 9-10, Skylar Stenson earned first place, and in the 13-14 age division, Colt Harris earned first, rosettes by Hi-Line Hardware, Chester. In Freestyle Archery, 15 and up age division, Rob Brenteson earned second place, and Brad Brenteson earned first. Brad also earned the Top Overall Freestyle Shooter, with a trophy from Dr. Larry Bonderud, Shelby. All top archery shooters received medals sponsored by Pete’s Northside Garage, Shelby and Blazing Arrows Archery Club, Shelby.
