Monica Huffman presented the council the work assignments for youth who have committed an offense and have to serve community time. She had 17 youth through the city program and as of Tuesday evening, over 250 hours had been completed in the area of community service. Areas where young people are doing community service include the big job of moving all the books and shelves at the Conrad Public Library so new carpet could be put down. Huffman noted, “Twelve of the city youth participated in the week of Feb. 5-9 totaling more than 100 hours and the library was thrilled with their performance.” Two youth went to the dog pound to walk dogs and clean kennels. Huffman arranged for a cleaning of the Community Center, six youth worked in various positions at an AAU wrestling meet, one is assisting with wrestling practices at UMS, three worked Lutefisk dinner at the Lutheran Church and the CofC has requested a number of youth to clean up after the annual banquet. A petition to vacate alley between CBC and TGP, Inc., in the south 100 block between Main St. and Front St. was passed. This was a housekeeping item. The approval of a training expense contact was passed. Librarian Carolyn Donath was on hand regarding library issues, one being a change in the job description of Bonnie Berthlson who works at the library and also does janitorial duty there. Council members noted it was all right to correct her job description and a resolution will be prepared addressing this item. Donath commented that work done for the library renovation was done with local businesses. City Finance officer Agnes Fowler gave her report, which was accepted by the council. She informed them that the budgets were in order and that auditors had been here and completed their audit. One of the audit team will be coming to a future council meeting to go over the city audit and answer any questions. The next regular council meeting with is on March 5 in city hall starting at 7:30 p.m.
