Red team second at tournament
COWBOY RED TEAM – Conrad placed second in the B Pool of the All-Star tourney held in Conrad last weekend. From the left in front are Rye O’Neil, Blake Underdahl, Lucas Fowler, and Isaiah Carpenter. In the back row is Trae Pruttis, Calvin Makelky, Devin VandenBos, Clint Christiaens, Coach Bruce Berthelson, Justin Sullivan, Coach Joey Pruttis, Austin Storle and Austin Zomer.
The Conrad Cowboys Red Team comprised of players from Conrad, Dutton, and Valier placed second in the B Pool of the Conrad All-Star tourney.
Teams in the B Pool were made up of players from Great Falls, North Jefferson County, Livingston, Conrad, Havre Hi-line, Cut Bank, Milk River, Alberta, Canada and Chinook.
In their first contest, the Red Team fell in a tough loss to Great Fall 9-8.
They bounced back to stop North Jefferson 5-4 in an extra inning game. Following that win, the Reds came back to push two runs across the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning to win once more by a 5-4 score.
“We took a liking to the 5-4 score,” commented Coach Joey Pruttis.
Facing Livingston, the Reds trailed late in the contest 4-3, but again managed to come up with two runs in their last at bats to defeat them 5-4. The cardiac kids then downed Havre 6-5 by knocking in two runs in their last at bat.
That put them into the championship contest with Jefferson.
This time Conrad rallied back to score a pair of runs in the to of the sixth inning, but Jefferson held on to take the winning side with a 5-4 score.
“What impressed me,” said Pruttis, “was how hard Conrad battled. Every inning was a dog fight, but time after time we came up big at the plate, on mound or in the field.”
He went on to add, “I’m impressed with these kids. It sure shows a lot about the families and our community that this team is made up of.”
