Schlosser, three time champ, matmen take 2nd

    For the second year running, the matmen of Coach Kevin Moritz capped their season with a second place trophy at the state meet in Billings.
    Of the 36 B-C teams, only Glasgow, who defended their title were able to top Conrad. For the second year in a row, it was a battle between the Scotties and Cowboys for first place honors.
    The top 10 team places and scores ended up like this: Glasgow 254, Conrad 164.5, Colstrip 126, Cascade-Simms 117, Arlee 91, Huntley Project 82, Chinook 82, Townsend 73, Choteau-Augusta 72.5, and Boulder 56.5.
Coach Moritz commented, “The kids wrestled well, I’m proud of them.”
    Cowboy senior Scotty Schlosser, 119 pounds, capped a brilliant career by winning his third state championship. He was 35-2 for the season and 128-20 in his mat career at Conrad High School.
    Early on he won his first match with a pin in 4:44. In the quarterfinals he took a 9-2 decision and the semi-finals Schlosser would not be denied in taking a 7-0 win.
    In the championship round, he defeated Chase Dirden of Harlem in 3:53 to cap his career with a pin-fall. “It was a great win,” said Coach Moritz.
    Jared Giard, a 125-pound junior, wrestled his way to a second place. He stopped Dalton Roundy of Darby with a pin-win in 3:50.
    Senior Andrew Lehnerz, 140, came back to place third and recorded three pins in doing it.
    He cashed in for a seasonal record of 38-7 and was 110-38 for his floor career. Lehnerz took out Garrick Thompson in 2:39 for the big win.
    Senior Bryce Gernaat, 112 pounds, also came back to place third. He had good season with a 26-11 record and was 104-46 for his career.
    In one of his wins at state, he stopped Colter Kiewatt of Drummond in 2:52 for the pin fall. He won a tough 7-5 decision over Clay Vermulm of Cut Bank to lace up third place.
    J.D. Hough, a Hwt. junior, defeated Jason Shaw with a 4-3 decision. Along the way, he stopped Brandon Tollet of Cascade in just  :31 seconds.
    Senior Austin Breding, 152 pounds, was 37-13 for the year and 89-61 for his career on the mats at CHS. Breding placed fifth at the state meet. In his final match, he took down Brock See of Glasgow for a pin-win in 1:19.
    Sophomore Kyle Judisch, 98 pounds, lost a tough match, 5-3, to Trey McDonald of Forsyth to place sixth in Billings.
    Along the way, he and Cowboy teammate Jared VanDyke faced off against each other. Judisch came on to win an 8-1 decision over VanDyke.
    Logan Erickson, a, 135 pound senior, didn’t place at the meet. He posted a 29-14 record for the season and was 90-69 in his mat career.
    Along the way, other Cowboys had their right hand raised in victory on the floor of the MetraPark.
    Colby Johns, 130, got a big pin-win over Walt Alvarexz of Glasgow in 3:54. Judisch had a pin in just :35, Erickson had a pin fall in 3:54, Trent Knox, 160 had a 10-1 decision and Norm Vanderbush, 171, wrestled his way to a 10-7 win.
