Voters residing in the Conrad Elementary and High School Districts are being asked to make an important decision on the question of levying additional taxes to fund improvements to the high school building. The election will be conducted by a mail ballot. On March 18 the county election office will mail ballots to active registered voters in the elementary and high school districts and the ballots will most likely be in mailboxes by March 19. The ballots are not forwardable and undeliverable ballots will be returned to the Clerk and Recorder’s office in the courthouse. If you do not receive a ballot and believe that you are eligible to vote in this election, you need to contact the Clerk and Recorder’s office at 271-4000. If your ballot was undeliverable as addressed you can update your address information, claim your ballot and vote. Another situation in which a voter does not receive a ballot is if the voter is inactive. An inactive voter is someone who is registered to vote but did not vote in the last federal general election. In this situation, voters who did not vote in the November 2006 general election were mailed a card to update their registration information. If that card was not returned to the Clerk and Recorder’s office, a second card was mailed to the voter. If, again, the voter did not return the card, the voter’s record is marked inactive and he or she will need to update their information in the election record before being allowed to vote. If you happen to fall in this category, you can also contact the Clerk and Recorder’s office, update your address information, claim your ballot and vote. If you have never registered to vote in Pondera County, you need to register by 5 p.m. on March 10 to be eligible for this election. You can register by contacting the Clerk and Recorder’s office on the main floor of the Courthouse. Instructions for voting will be included with the mailed ballots. Voted ballots must be returned to the Clerk and Recorder by April 8. at 8 p.m. Counting of votes will be at the Courthouse in the Commissioners’ office beginning at 8 p.m. on April 8 and the public is welcome to observe the count. Exercise your right to vote – be sure you are an active voter.
