Submitted by Lisa Schmidt The Pondera Shooting Sports Club invites everyone to a fun-filled, exciting night with friends and family at their banquet and auction on July 26 at the Pondera Golf Club. Dr. Dick Kinyon will cook a mouthwatering Dutch oven pork loin with all the trimmings. Jim Greer will host the silent auction, give away awesome door prizes and announce the winner of the Savage Mark II FV “gopher getter” rifle raffle. Dinner ticket holders will automatically be entered into a drawing for a new 20-gauge youth model shotgun and another drawing for an adult rifle. The chance to bid at the live auction will be worth the ticket price alone. Something for everyone will be auctioned to the highest bidder: A free night at the Inn Dupuyer Bed and Breakfast; a new-in-the-box Ruger 10-22 rifle; a wine basket; a Cortland fly-fishing travel outfit (including a reel, rod, fly line and carrier case); a Scheels Elite spin casting, medium action, rod and reel combo; a Senco pneumatic-finish nailer and compressor, a hand-quilted quilt; a custom cut and wrapped lamb; a field scoring kit; and much, much more. Highlighting the live auction will be a hand-engraved Ruger .44 magnum pistol. Diners also will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a Ruger .45 Colt that has been hand-engraved by Conrad’s own Jerome Glimm. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25 and the winner will be drawn on Sept. 30. This dinner and auction will be the highlight of the summer. Join your friends for the social hour at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 per adult or $10 per child (5 to 12 years old). Kids under five are free. Tickets may be purchased at the door or from Chris Berg – 223-7335 – Scott Johnson – 590-3256 – or at Van Motors. Tickets also are available at the Pondera County Extension Office and Bullhead Sports. Proceeds from this dinner and auction will be used to continue construction on the Pondera Shooting Sports Complex. This building will be home to 4-H Shooting Sports, small bore and shotgun leagues, Hunter Education, shooting tournaments, adult archery, public shooting, and other educational and recreational events. With the help of many volunteers and donors, the concrete footings have already been poured. PSSC board members expect the concrete floor to be poured soon and then the framing will go up. The PSSC has received grants, in-kind contributions and donations from many people and businesses who know this is a worthwhile effort, but the board of directors still needs to raise about $50,000. Those folks in town for the baseball and swimming tournament are invited to come out to the PGC on Saturday and join in the fun at the Shoot Sports banquet.
