Superintendent of Schools Lynn Utterback announced on Wednesday, at the Conrad Chamber of Commerce meeting, that the remodeling project at Conrad High School has been awarded to Swank Construction, a local contractor out of Valier.
Voters recently passed a levy to fix an obsolete and non-working boiler, construct a gym, convert the existing gym and stage to an auditorium and build four new locker rooms.
The high school levy was for $4.1 million and the elementary levy was for $2.2 million to share the cost of renovation at the high school.
Utterback noted that the contractor was selected early to work with the architects, L’Heureux, Page, Werner and the price of the project is guaranteed. If the contractor goes over the bid, they pay the override.
In other reports, Carolyn Donath from the library told the gathering they were gearing up for summer reading and “everything is great.”
Representing the hospital, PMC trustee chairman Byron Bokma reported that the board had hired Rick Palagi, a senior executive at Northwest Healthcare-Kalispell Regional Medical Center as an interim CEO while the search committee looks for a replacement.
He will be on hand three days a week until a full time replacement is hired.
Bokma also announced that there would be an open house and tour of the Winkley rolling coach that provides digital mammography, ultrasound and bone density scanning. The converted motor home will be at the PMC, 805 Sunset Blvd. and the open house and tour is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information call the PMC at 271-3211.
Bokma, who is in his ninth term as a board member, also encouraged members and the public, to sit on the PMC board. “Sometimes we have to scramble to find someone to sit on the board, which basically oversees one of the largest businesses in town.”
He noted, “People don’t want to sit on (the) board because of controversy at times.”
The current board consists of Bokma, Buck Traxler, Reta Rae Weisgram, Carla Styren, Jim Nelson, Cheryl Bakken, Ted Kronebusch, Commissioner Joe Christiaens, and Physician Chief of Staff, Jay Taylor, and non-voting employee representative Phyllis Hammermeister.
