Mayor John Shevlin reported that alley clean up went well, crews are working on getting the pool ready and a grant was received for help with a petroleum spill.
Cheryl Curry from the Port Authority said they were working on grants, possible business relocation, and attending lots of meetings.
Harold Olson, for the EDC, said the museum would open the Tuesday after Memorial Day but a number of spot tours were being done because folks have seen the museum sign on I-15 and stop in.
Llew Jones gave a quick report, noting he is working on electronic storage for computers, which is a problem on both the state and county level. He is hoping for a decision soon on the MATL line and said Conrad is getting a little spin off of wind mill construction on the Hi-line.
George Tornga noted that he, Harold and Francis Erickson were working on the big clock at the depot building and hope to have it ready for Whoop-Up in 2009. They are about $4,000 short of the needed $10,000 to get the work completed.
He also said that if anyone would like to help work on the clock, they could go to the depot any Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Contact Tornga for more details.
Jamey Byrnes, CofC President, announced that a circus would be in town for two shows on July 9 and on Oct. 21, the Harlem Ambassadors would be here. They are similar to the Harlem Globetrotters. The CofC is looking for a team to play them. For more information on that, contact the CofC.
The main speakers at Chamber were elementary counselor Deb Perry and Language Arts and History instructor Tara Thielman from UMS.
Their presentation was on the OLWEUS Bully Prevention Program that is school wide in the classroom along with individual and community components.
They noted that bullying consists of not only hitting, but also sexual harassment, spreading false rumors and (new) sending nasty messages on cell phones or over the Internet by email.
They reported that 30 percent of the students at Meadowlark say they are bullied 2-3 times a month and students at PVS and UMS are bullied (almost the same percentage) in various ways.
They said that everyone is being educated about this and there will be more education with students next year.
The next meeting of the CofC will be June 11 at the Lobby. Sherry Miller from the Border Patrol will be the guest speaker.
