Mary Erickson from the Pondera Medical Center noted that CFO Mack Simpson is retiring. He will be moving to Big Sky where he has a condominium . The hospital is negotiating with a female doctor, will be conducting a community health survey in the near future and they will also be coming out with an ad campaign in the I-O, featuring in-house services in the near future. They are working on picking a date for the always highly popular PMC Health Fair, most likely to be held sometime in October and that Jamie Barns is a new PA working in the ER. Commissioner Sandy Broesder told the group she had been to a National MACo meeting in Kansas City. She said it was interesting to see that other rural counties around the country were dealing with budgets and voting problems, just like here. The county has purchased the old Coast-to-Coast hardware store that the New Life Church is presently using. They in turn have purchased the Community and Senior Citizens Center at 106 S. Delaware. The old hardware store will be remodeled into a newer, all-on-one floor Senior Center. The county is also working on their budgets and upgrading at the airport is underway. State Representative Llew Jones said he has been busy with energy issues and he had some folks with him who were looking at the possibility of Conrad being a shipping container site. He is also working on this area becoming a wind corridor. There has been no word from Montana on the proposed transmission line from Alberta to Great Falls (MATL). Approximately 130 of the proposed 215 mile line would be in Montana with a good portion going through Pondera County. The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the U.S. Department of Energy will release an environmental impact statement to the public later this summer or early fall. The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board have just recently granted a similar permit on the Canadian side. If passed and built here, the line is expected to cause a surge of wind farm construction in the northcentral part of the state. The next regular meeting of the CofC will be at the Lobby on Sept. 10 at noon. Theresa Bates of KFBB-TV will be the guest speaker. Looking ahead Scott Petera of NorthWestern Energy will be the special speaker in October. The Harvest Festival is coming up on Oct. 11 and before you know it, the Christmas Stroll will be here on Dec. 5.
