UMS 7th grade team claims championship |

 TOURNEY CHAMPS – The UMS seventh grade girls’ basketball team, with a 16-1 record, are league champions after winning their tournament over the weekend. From the left in front is Jessica Stenson. The seventh grade UMS girls’ basketball team finished the season with a 16-1 record and won their middle school tournament. Friday they opened play against Cut Bank to see who would advance to the final four. Both teams got off to a slow start with UMS leading 5-4 after the first period. Conrad went on a 13-point run and led 18-11 at the intermission. The squad came on to add 21-second half points to win the contest 39-19. Taylor Judisch poured in 18 points to lead all scorers. Moranda Brentson chipped in nine markers, Kristine Warlick and Hope Badgett both hit the hoop for four and Morgan Fowler and Kaitlyn Weis each had a hoop in the contest. Saturday morning, Conrad faced off with Chester and jumped out to a 12-5 lead early on. With a 15-8 advantage in the second period, UMS led 27-13 at the break. Down the stretch, Conrad came on to score 10 points for a big 42-31 win. Brenteson clipped the nets for 17 points to lead the way. Baggett bounced in 10 off the glass. Fowler threw in seven points, Judisch and Warlick each scored three and Weis had two points. This set up a contest with Browning in the championship game, facing Browning Boarding Dorm, the only team to defeat them in the regular season. Conrad had a strong first period, jumping on Browning for a 12-5 advantage. Both teams hit the hoops for six points, giving UMS an 18-11 lead at intermission. The floor game slowed down over the second half and Browning rallied with an 11-8 advantage, but it was too little too late and Conrad claimed the 26-22 win for the championship. Brenteson led all scorers, crashing the boards for 13 markers. Badgett pumped in eight points and Fowler added three. Judisch had the final basket for the game and Fowler played a super defensive game on the Browning point guard. Team members are Morgan Fowler, Taylor Judisch, Kristine Warlick, Jessica Stenson, Tori Fladstol, Annabell Wittmier, Kaitlyn Weis, Moranda Brenteson, and Hope Badgett. They were coached by Sandy Syvertson.
