Conrad school trustee, on Friday, passed a resolution for a $6.3 million GOB (General Obligation Bond).
Sixty five percent of the GOB, $4.1 million, would be used for the high school and 35 percent, $2.2 million, would be used for the elementary school.
The election for voters to cast their ballots will be on April 8.
The GOB will allow necessary major remodeling at CHS which Superintendent of Schools Lynn Utterback tells the I-O, is “not only necessary but allows us to save money through efficiency to provide fresh air, and quirt more comfortable classrooms which research shows allows students to learn and achieve at higher levels.”
He is talking about the obsolete boiler system, 57 years old that has already stopped working and has been removed for scrap.
Presently a temporary boiler located behind the school building is heating the high school.
In addition, steam pipes, traps and univents, well over 50 years old, are well past their functional lifetime and need to be replaced.
Plans call for the old boiler to be replaced with hot water boilers that are much more efficient and save money on natural gas bills.
The new univents would allow for proper mixing of fresh air with warm air giving rooms better oxygen levels and will be a lot quieter.
In addition, rooms could be heated to the proper temperatures; something that is not happening now, says Utterback.
In addition to this, there are plans to expand and improve other areas of the high school.
An upcoming article will deal with areas of the school that again, are outdated, that do not meet fire and handicap accessible codes and the estimated tax increase for residential taxpayers.
