Wear pink at the Fair to show support

All you rodeo fans, get ready for another PRCA rodeo at the Marias Fair, but this year there will be a slight change in the agenda.
On July 19, you can support the Hi-Line Woman Against Breast Cancer and all women with breast cancer by wearing pink on Saturday. For every person who wears pink to the Fair on Saturday, a dollar of their admission goes to the Hi-Line WABC. There will also be a booth with Tough Enough to Wear Pink merchandise and information on the Hi-Line WABC under the Rodeo grandstands.
The Hi-Line Woman Against Breast Cancer is a group of women dedicated to helping women in and around the Hi-Line area. They help pay for prescriptions, prosthesis, second opinions, wigs, daycare, travel, and other expenses. Each case is treated individually and kept confidential amongst their board. They can even help pay medical bills that insurance won’t cover.
“They paid for all my gas when I went to treatment and I was in treatment for seven weeks, five days a week,” said Sherry Johnson, of Conrad.  Johnson’s first concern when she was diagnosed was survival, but a close second was, “How will we pay the bills?” Hi-Line WABC helped her with both moral and financial support. She has since nominated two other friends to WABC for assistance.
I became interested in the TETWP when I was in the Little Miss Big Sky Rodeo competition.
I then realized that I wanted to do a similar event at the Marias Fair. When I started looking for a group for all the proceeds to go to I realized that the Hi-Line WABC was the best candidate because all of their proceeds stay right here in the area.
Through my 4-H Independent Study project, I was able to make this whole event possible. The project book helped me to determine my goals, what resources I should utilize, and develop a timeline, which helped me organize the project.
The 4-H horse kids will be showing their support by riding in the rodeo grand entry on Saturday– wearing pink, of course.
Several sponsors who contributed in various ways made this event possible. I applied for and received a People Partner Grant from the 4-H Foundation.
This funding allowed me to purchase TETWP merchandise that will be sold to benefit the WABC and to help purchase decorations for the rodeo grandstands.
The Independent-Observer, Valierian and other area papers are running news articles, and all of this is hugely important to the success of the event. Without their publicity, nobody would show up for this great event.
So, find your pink duds and come out to the Marias Fair and Rodeo on July 19. Never fear, if you don’t have anything stylin’ in pink, you can choose from the TETWP merchandise at my booth under the grandstands.
