Conrad mat fans will be treated to a lot of wrestling Jan. 18-19 as the Cowboys host a dual meet tournament.
Teams hitting the mats will be Choteau, CMR (JV), GFH (JV), Cut Bank, Shelby, Townsend and Whitehall.
The format calls for pool wrestling, with the winners advancing to the semi-final and then consolation/championship round on Saturday evening.
Those teams finishing third or fourth in their respective pools will have an opportunity to wrestle an additional match.
Jim Carroll, the tournament manager, says, “We have attempted to place teams in the pools so there is a fairly equal level of competition within each pool.”
POOL A lines up like this: Conrad, CMR, Shelby and Townsend. POOL B is made up of Choteau, GFH, Cut Bank and Whitehall.
There will be two mats for the wrestlers. Conrad opens the tourney on Mat 1 at 5 p.m. on Friday going against CMR. Shelby is scheduled to hit the mat at 6:30 p.m., facing off with Townsend and then Conrad has an 8 p.m. date with Townsend.
On mat 2, Choteau will mix it up with GFH at 5 p.m. Cut Bank and Whitehall get to tangle at 6:30 p.m., followed by Choteau and Whitehall rumbling at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, Conrad and Shelby have a mat-date for 11:30 a.m.
The semi-finals are slated to begin about 4 p.m. and the winners of those matches advance to the championship finals, which should get underway about 5:30 p.m.
In addition to the team awards an All Tournament Team consisting of one wrestler in each weight class, selected by the coaches, will receive medals.
This will be a super chance to catch the Cowboy matmen in action against some topnotch competition.
