Dan Piccard
Pondera County?s new Extension Agent Dan Picard.

Dan Picard is the new MSU-Bozeman Extension Agent for Pondera County.
He is a native of Bainville, a town with a population of about 150, which is famous for being the last Montana town on Hwy. 2 before you cross over into North Dakota.
Bainville was formally known as Kenneth; however, the community changed its name to Bainville in honor of the town’s first postmaster. Their post office has been in operation since 1904.
Picard went through elementary and high school there and went on to attend MSU-Bozeman where he received his degree in Crop Science.
He then became a county agent in Chinook (Blaine County) and was there for 11 years. In 1981 he moved to the Knees to work his wife’s family farm, which he did for 25 years.
Back in the saddle again, he notes that the position as County Extension Agent is different now than it used to be because the technology has changed. He is getting up to speed on the livestock end of it.
“I know the basics and have been involved in 4-H before and will be here,” he says.
“We are a unique service,” Picard notes, “We are instructors from the university and provide information on products and services people might need. It can be very diverse, from insect problems in a grain bin to livestock.”
The new agent also wants people to know this is an agricultural resource for them. “We have access to the university in the field and have people we can go to for backup,” he said.
When time permits he likes to hunt pheasants or elk and go fly fishing.
He and his wife Marliss have three grown children and four grandchildren.
Picard invites everyone to stop in and say hi and get acquainted.
He can be reached in the Pondera County Courthouse, 20 4th Ave. SW in Conrad. His phone number is (406) 271-4054 or he can be emailed at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
