FIRST ACE – Jim Vollrath used his five wood to drill a hole-in-one, at the 189-yard par three third hole during the Pondera Medical Center golf tourney on Saturday in the morning round. It was his first ace. There was a $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one, but you had to sign up for it which he didn’t do, but it took place during the second nine. I-O Photo by Buck Traxler
The eighth annual Pondera Medical Center tournament held at the Pondera Golf Club drew 18-four person teams for its annual fund-raiser event on Saturday.
In the men’s division, the team of Chad Baker, TJ Bennyhoff, Danny McFarland and Calvin Schlepp blistered the course with a 60 to capture first place.
Right behind, in second place, were the team of Tom Billings, Duane Gjesdal, Buck Traxler and Jim Vollrath with a 62.
In a tie for third place were the teams of Tim, Ryan and Kenny VanDyke and Lee Diedrich along with Jim Christensen, Tom Elliott, Gordon Nelsen, and Jerry Ivers. Both squads carded a 66.
In the women’s division, the winners with a score of 83 were Denise Frigge, Donna Warwick, Jodie Weisgram and Robin VanDyke.
This year the biggest group was the mixed division and the team of Chris, Judy, and Kyle Ellis and Brandon Philipps fired a neat round of 67 to place first.
Coming home with a one under par 71 were two teams in a tie for second and they were; Nikki and Larry Schriver and Keith and Colleen Widhalm along with Alan Brownell, Jill Swanson, Cathy Vandenacre and Kevin Forbes.
In with a par 72 were Jay and Monica Taylor, Jerry Heggem and Carrie Vollrath.
Carding a 73 were two teams: Jerry, Myrna, Mike and Jeff Christensen, and Traci, Casey, Daryl, and Greg Vandenacre.

Shooting a 74 were Glen Baker, Craig Barringer, and Brenda and Ken Slezak.
In with a 75 were Amber and Chris Coddington, Heather Schriver and Bob Litchfield.
The squad of Byron, Heather, Katelyn, Rachel and Caitlin Bokma put together a round of 78.
Two teams tied with scores of 84 and they were Cindie and Bryce Vandenberg, Tracy Mullaney, and Diana Ketcheson along with Nikkie, and Justin Nelson and DeeAnna and Ted Corn.
Jessica Saracco, Jody Fowler, Gene Morris and Amanda Fuhringer shot an 87 and maybe the team that had the most fun were Michelle and Mark Ghekiere, Deb Pate and Dennis Hicks who carded a 109!
Individual hole prizes went to Jerry Christensen and Amber Coddington on the first hole for shortest drive, Tom Billings and Judy Ellis at the second hole for a drive closest to the green, closest to the hole on their second shot at number four were Alan Brownell and Jill Swanson, closest to the pin at number six was Brenda Slezak, the most team balls in the water at number seven went to Cindie and Bryce Vandenberg, Tracy Mullaney and Diana Ketcheson (5), the long drive for women at the eighth hole went to Heather Schriver and the long drive for men went to Chad Baker.
However, the shot of the day belonged to Jim Vollrath who recorded his first hole-in-one at the 189-yard par three third hole. Great job!
