Pondera County 4-Hers earn awards

    Pondera County sent over one hundred  4-Hers to the Marias Fair in Shelby to compete and present exhibits in a wide variety of projects.
4-H Fair participation is designed for youth to be judged against a standard of excellence. This standard determines whether the youth earns a blue, red or white ribbon.
    Beyond the standards, youth compete against each other for top awards. The top competitors are listed below, but it is important to note that there are many more 4-Hers who went and worked hard and did well who were not recognized with top awards.

    Krystal McDougal earned the honor of Fair High Point Girl, which is a plaque donated by Village Drug, Conrad. Each ribbon is worth points – 6 for blue, 4 for red, and 2 for white. So Krystal earned the most points of any girl at the Fair, including exhibits and participation in other competitions. She had to work very hard both before and during the Fair to earn this honor.
    The Pondera County livestock judging teams made a clean sweep of the livestock judging awards – taking the first place team awards in each age division.
    Top Pre-Jr Livestock Judging Team:  Skylar Stenson, Kaily Judisch, Taylour Russell and Krista Judisch - rosettes donated by Marias Fair Board.
    Top Junior Livestock Judging Team:  Brad Holden, Rye O’Neal, Jessica Stenson and Justin Fritz - rosettes donated by Marias Fair Board.
    Top Senior Livestock Judging Team:  Amber Stenson, Brad Brenteson, Demi O’Neal and David Ratzburg - rosettes donated by Marias Fair Board.
    The success of the Pondera County 4-H youth is due to a combination of hard work on their part and training from dedicated leaders and parents. They’ve worked all year for their efforts to culminate at the Fair.
    4-H members are now working to complete their project requirements for the year, and thinking about signing up for next year. Anyone interested in joining 4-H may stop into the Extension office for registration information. The new year begins October 1.
