Former Conrad resident and business owner Wyatt Stokes has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for bankruptcy fraud. He is the former owner of Equipment Connection in Conrad. He pleaded guilty to bankruptcy fraud earlier this year. According to court records, Stokes filed for bankruptcy in 2002, reporting a gross income of $1,500 a month. However, a bank trustee discovered in 2005 that Stokes had earned more than $200,000 while working at Bouma Truck Sales in Choteau. Stokes also has pleaded nolo contendere to felony theft by embezzlement, a felony with eight other counts of the same or similar offenses to be dismissed. He is to pay any restitution due on each count. Authorities say he committed that crime while running his own business and while working for Bouma Truck Sales. District Judge Sam Hadden of Great Falls sentenced Stokes to three years in prison plus three years of supervised release.
