Joe DeStaffany of Conrad won the CASA’S 4 CASA playhouse, raffled off over Whoop-Up Days.
The playhouse was raffled as a fundraiser for the Front Range CASA/GAL program. He bought the ticket in his granddaughter’s name.
Front Range CASA/GAL is a non-profit organization that works for the abused and neglected children in Pondera, Toole, Teton and Glacier counties. The program is expanding. Currently there are four trained volunteers. The end of June an additional five volunteers will begin the training program.
The training program consists of 30 hours of mandatory training. Kiersta Sullivan, Executive Director of Front Range, says that the volunteers are from several different counties, helping to expand the program. “We rely on volunteers and donations to make our program a success,” said Sullivan, “and so far we have been very fortunate.”
If becoming a volunteer or making a donation to the program is something you would be interested in, contact Sullivan at 576-7041.
Right now, the organization is working on fundraising and that is always a challenge. “It is amazing to see the generosity of people in these tough economic times, said Sullivan.

The 69th annual Whoop Trail Days Rodeo and Rhubarb Festival are in the books for another year and everyone can take a sigh of relief.
Near perfect weather brought out crowds of people to line Main St. for the parades and Rhu Fest and see what crafts and food vendors had to offer or pop into the new store that Mitch Hauer opened on Saturday, Cravings, in the Downtown Mall building.
The Lions Club breakfast at Meadowlark School had one of the biggest turnouts ever that members can recall.
Following are the results of various activities that entertained a cast of thousands.
At the Rhubarb Festival, Kit Finlayson told the I-O, “We sold out of the pies very early even though we had twice as many as we had last year.”
She went on to add, “We’ll be making more next year in hopes of keeping up with the demand.”
At the pie contest, first place went to Diana Harris with a Rhubarb custard pie. Second place went to Esther Finlayson for a Rhubarb raisin pie and third place went to Victoria Rohrer with a Raspberry Rhubarb pie.
In the dessert segment, first place went to Paula Hudson with a Rhubarb Huckleberry-Pistachio Crisp; Betty Young with Rhubarb crunch captured third and Loretta Coffman with a Rhubarb upside down cake placed third.
In the largest leaf contest, it was Jean Duncan in first, Cheryl Tornga getting second and Shirley Marsh placing third.
Getting out for an 8:30 a.m. start, 67 runners and walkers participated in the annual Pondera Medical Center Fun run.
Charlene Bouma reported that times for the 5K race were faster this year than last. Grand prize winners in that event included; Blaine Berg-Conrad, 2 and under, 24:18; Age 13-19 group, Drew Keller from Shelby, 17:24. His time from last year was 18:30. The age group 20-49 winner was Vance Weckworth II from Great Falls with a time of 18:17. Last year he won this bracket with a time of 19:35. In the 50+ age bracket, Jim Hellinger of Shelby won with a clocking of 21:57.
Relay race winners, done on Main St. later in the morning, had Jennifer Schlepp, Diane Agree and Cristy Kulpus in first place in 3:11; second went to the PMC’s Val Elings, Mary Johns, John Ringdahl and Pat Heinen. Third place with a time of 3:24 was had by the hospital’s Vann Lovett, Jerrica Harris, James Cox and Lori Sebben in 3:24.
